Poppesnor, le collectif féministe belge aux moustaches

What? The feminist café is not literaly a café, but is a monthly info/discussion night about a feminist topic.

Why? Following the example of the many feminist cafés in the Netherlands, FC Poppesnor decided to start its own feminist café in Antwerp, Belgium, where there are little to no feminist initiatives or organisations.

Feminism for FC Poppesnor is a contemporary notion and practice. It does not only examine gender-relations, it also questions other power structures and socio-economic and political/religious situations and issues in the world.

FC Poppesnor (the name) derives from (FC) 'feminist café' and (Poppesnor - a very rare, Dutch word) 'investigating spirit'. In Dutch, 'pop' means 'doll' and 'snor' means 'moustache', both of which you will find in our mascotte. Since dolls are usually associated with women and girls and moustaches with men, our mascotte consists of feminine ánd masculine traits combined. In this way we playfully question stereotypical notions of gender. Why should a doll not have a moustache?

For whom? The feminist café is for everybody with a big or a small interest in feminism, for everybody who believes in equal opportunities for everybody, for everybody who is interested in what we do... Speakers at the café usually speak Dutch, but simultaneous translation (Dutch-English and Dutch-French) can be provided if you ask us (by email) in advance.

By whom? The feminist café exists thanks to the work of a few volunteers and the financial support of Mama Cash. We printed our flyers with a subsidy of Gelijke Kansen Vlaanderen.

Elections présidentielles de 2007 en Turquie.

Des femmes célèbres, intellectuelles, patronnes, artistes ou journalistes, lancent une campagne publicitaire "coup de poing" – ou plutôt coup de poils : elles s'affichent en grande largeur sur les murs, dans la presse (comme en Une du Turkish Daily News) ou dans les médias audiovisuels, ornées d'une moustache, avec ce slogan "Est-il nécessaire d'être un homme pour entrer au Parlement ?" La Turquie est 163ème sur 167 pays, pour sa représentativité des femmes au Parlement et elles sont moins nombreuses à y être qu'en 1934 !
